  • The results of the “Common Core” school curriculum are in and it appears that it has left every kid it has touched dumber than before.

Common Core has been in place for close to a decade in some places. And according to data assembled by the U.S. Department of Education, the results are very poor.

“Every American family needs to open The Nation’s Report Card this year and think about what it means for their child and for our country’s future,” Education Secretary Betsy DeVos said in a Wednesday press release. “The results are, frankly, devastating.”

“This country is in a student achievement crisis, and over the past decade it has continued to worsen, especially for our most vulnerable students,” DeVos added.

The NAEP test is administered to students in the fourth and eighth grades and covers math a reading proficiency.

But the recent tests show that American students are failing to measure up to students of past years.

This year’s results were only marginally better than those from 1992 which is a stark reversal of the tests made in previous years which had shown improvement.

The mathematics scores show the worst decline. Historically, math scores had shown improvement over the 1990s until the year 2015 when most states had finished implementing Common Core. Despite double-digit gains since the ’90s, fourth graders only managed to score a single point above their previous tests this year.

Eighth graders failed to even meet that tiny gain and scored lower than the results from 2017.

“This must be America’s wake-up call,” DeVos said in her press release. “We cannot abide these poor results any longer. We can neither excuse them away nor simply throw more money at the problem.”

Meanwhile, students in most other countries are blowing American students out of the water. American students are some of the least proficient in every area of education than other kids across the world.

The massive failure of Common Core has made those results even worse.

Abrasive blasting, which is the process of using specialized machinery to project or “shoot” media at high speed across a hard surface, can be ideal for removing old finishes. It can also power away rust or prepare the surface for painting.
Here are 7 tips that can help you choose the best abrasive medium for your specific blasting applications.

HOW TO CHOOSE ABRASIVE BLASTING MEDIA

    1. Better “Soft” Than SorryIf you’re not sure whether the surface you are blasting can handle a more abrasive material, you’re probably better off starting with a gentler medium. Walnut shells or corn cobs can be an excellent choice for softer surfaces such as wood — they won’t cause etching. They also provide the additional benefit of being biodegradable, making them among the most environmentally-friendly blasting media.
    2. Make It Shine With Glass BeadsIf you’re looking to achieve a smooth, bright finish, glass beads can be your best option. Glass beads are typically made from fine soda-lime glass that places minimal stress on the surface material. Glass beads are also recyclable and can be used up to 100 times before replacement, making them an extremely cost-effective option.
    3. Remove Paint With Aluminum OxideAluminum oxide is harder and sharper than glass beads. It’s ideal for use in paint removal and general cleaning applications — it’s also frequently used for glass etching.
    4. Choose Plastic for Automotive and Aerospace ApplicationsPlastic is extremely soft, making it an ideal medium for removing paint from the surface of fiberglass parts. Fiberglass parts are commonly used in the manufacturing of automotive, aerospace and marine products, without etching or stripping. Using plastic for blasting also results in very low levels of dust.
    5. Use Silicon Carbide for Fast EtchingSilicon carbide provides an extremely aggressive cutting action that is ideal for fast etching of glass, stone or other hard surfaces. It also works well for removing rust or paint.
    6. Find Super-Hard and Aggressive Steel MediaMedia made from carbon steel is available in shot or grit form. Steel shot is round in shape and can be used for polishing and peening applications. Steel grit offers a more angular shape and sharper texture. It can be used to remove rust, paint or scale from steel surfaces.
    7. Avoid SandThe terms “sandblasting” and “abrasive blasting” are sometimes used interchangeably. However, many companies are moving away from sand as a blasting medium for a number of reasons. Sand contains silica, which is known to cause serious respiratory illnesses for workers involved in the sandblasting process. Additionally, sand contains a high moisture content that can lead to the premature demise of blasting equipment.

z axis notes from other builds

The Z axis is purchased with the control package from each company. Both use a
16mm ballscrew and linear rail. The Bladerunner uses 20mm chrome hardened
shafting with recirculating ball sleeve bearing where the Spark Robotic uses 20mm
profile rail with recirculating ball bearing blocks. The torch mount on the Bladerunner is
rigid or option magnetic breakaway where the Spark Robotic Z axis uses a collision
detection torch mount with proximity sensors.

In determining the ballscrew size we determined what the model number was
our first purchase was for rails with 1605 ballscrews, later we determined the number represented the size
1605 is 15 mm with 5 degree pitch
realizing this we determined the screw was to small for our needs and ordered 2505

    16mm being .62 in and 25mm being .98

if we are going to run duel screws for our x axis the smaller will be ok but our intention is to run a single down the center

Until 2016 and the advent of the Trump presidency, details about Chinese cyberattacks and the organizations behind them were tightly held secrets. Successive U.S. administrations since the 1990s sought to cover up and hide nefarious Chinese intelligence activities as part of rigid policies designed to appease Beijing.

Military intelligence organizations are strategic players in the Chinese goal of achieving information dominance — the first step in laying waste to the main enemy in both peacetime and war and paving the way forward to achieving global supremacy.

The case of Su Bin would reveal for the first time the Chinese military’s relentless drive to steal American weapons know-how from defense contractors such as Boeing to build up its forces for the ultimate defeat of “American imperialism” — the term used by China in many of its internal communications to describe the Communist Party of China’s main enemy, the United States.

When I was 8 years old my dad was working at the local airport. He was working as a mechanic but was also working toward getting a pilot’s license. After he completed his training, he needed to fly a lot to get the required hours and experience to become a better pilot. As I look back now the experience was wasted. We would fly 3 or 4 time a week, the same route, out to Okeechobee then to Sebring and back, yes, we would do different trips but that was a good 3-hour log book entry. I would get tired and sleep, never asked about how its fly’s or if I could take control. I guess it was just about spending the day with my dad. Now I am older I don’t have any interest in airplanes or mechanics, I guess it never really got me excited or really interested in flying. One thing for sure I understand the concentration and skill development required for flying, we spent a lot of weeks together, a lot of flying hours. In the end my did never became a commercial pilot, he has always been involved with aviation, I think the flying was just a challenge he had to concur.
